Deputy Principal News - Mrs Shiolan Ferrer

This week, our P–2 sector is busily engaged in both formative and summative assessments as we approach the end of Term 3.

Our Prep students have been working incredibly hard on their phonics learning and are continuing to develop their reading skills through the use of decodable readers. Their handwriting and sentence construction have also shown significant improvement, supported by the rich and diverse texts used in classroom learning.

Our Year 1 students are currently participating in the Year 1 Phonics Check. This is being conducted one-on-one by our dedicated Year 1 teachers, ensuring students receive individual attention and support.

In Year 2, teachers are continuing to implement PLD streaming, with all students showing noticeable progress in their literacy development. Every time I speak with our Year 2 students, they express positive feedback about the process, particularly in how it helps them target key sounds and improve letter recognition. This is a great testament to the success of differentiated instruction.

It's been a fantastic week of learning across the P–2 team!

2026 Prep Enrolment Interviews – Week 8

We will be conducting 2026 Prep Interviews during school hours from September 1–4, 2025. Parents residing within our catchment who have not yet booked an enrolment interview are encouraged to contact Vicki O'Sullivan at Corporate Services.

We will also be holding a Parent Information Session for 2026 Prep families on Monday, 1st September at 4:30pm in the Hall. This session is intended for parents considering enrolment for their child in 2026.

First Nations – Think Tank Project

This week, Mr. Cooke and I will be collaborating with Regional and Cluster Schools as part of our First Nations – Think Tank project. This initiative focuses on fostering a unified approach to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families, aiming to strengthen connections, communication, and engagement in learning.

Book Week – This Friday!

We’re excited to celebrate Book Week this Friday! We can’t wait to see all our P–2 students dressed up as their favourite book characters. It’s always a highlight of the term!

Have a wonderful week, everyone!

BayView Values

Supporting Positive Behaviour Together

As we move through a busy term filled with assessment, reporting, and a variety of exciting celebrations, it's natural to see some changes in student behaviour, attitudes, and actions from time to time.

At BayView State School, we remain committed to the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach, promoting consistent expectations and reinforcing our school values across all year levels.

We encourage families to continue teaching and modelling our School Values at home. It’s always wonderful to hear parents using the same positive language during pick-ups and drop-offs—it makes a real difference!

When positive behaviours are modelled consistently, our students take notice, follow suit, and show pride in themselves and their school. Thank you for your continued support in working together to create a respectful and safe learning environment for all.
