Deputy Principal News - Mrs Shiolan Ferrer

Hello P-2 Families,

Welcome to another edition of P-2 News from our Early Years.

There are lots of activities and special events occurring for our P-2 sector and the across the school, as Term 3 unwinds into Weeks 5 to 10.

In Week 5, we will celebrate the National Day Against Bullying. Throughout this week, our school will be celebrating this event by reminding all students and the community to work together in “Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up!” It takes courage to spark change. Bullying is everyone’s responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate. At BayView State School, students will be working on tyring to foster these 5 key steps:

1.  Be Bold: You have the power to help

2.  Be Kind:   Small actions make a big impact

3.  Speak Up:  Speak against bullying

4.  Think before you post or speak

5.  Together, we can stop bullying

This Friday, we will celebrate this occasion by wearing 'purple’ as a free-dress day!

First Nations News- Barna Jarjum Projects

Last week on Monday 4th of August our BJC champion students and leaders, hosted a week of activities linked to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Literacy Day. These students across P-6, worked together in promoting advocacy for reading, but also linking the love of reading, by connecting with First Nation story books and art.

Congratulations to the BJC team for working together and learning on and about Country, People and Place.

QParents Platform – Action Required

Our school is transitioning to the QParents online platform. If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you create your account as soon as possible.

Families who are not registered on QParents will need to submit hard copies of permission slips and make in-person payments for excursions, camps, or incursions at the front office.

If you need help setting up your QParents account, our friendly Corporate Services staff are available to assist you.

2026 Prep Enrolments

Please ensure to book an interview for 2026 Prep Enrolments via the School Enrolment Booking online service. See Vicki O’Sullivan at Corporate Services if requiring support.  2026 Prep Enrolments for In-Catchment families will be held during September 1 - 4, 2025.  Bookings will be required.

Parent Information Evening and Tour - 1 September 2025, in the MPH from 4:40 - 5:15pm & School Tour from 5:15pm - 5:45pm.

P–2 Afternoon Procedures

We kindly ask parents and caregivers of Prep to Year 2 students to wait in the central covered area or sit on the concrete blocks nearby during pick-up time.
Please avoid waiting directly outside classrooms, as it can be distracting for students.
Once the home bell rings, you are welcome to move toward the classrooms.

Playground Access Before and After School

The playground is out of bounds in the morning and afternoon for all students.
Only Jabiru students, under the supervision of Jabiru staff, may access the playground during these times.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and supervised environment.

Year 1 – Upcoming Phonics Check

Our Year 1 students will soon be participating in the Phonics Check, a regional initiative to support literacy development.
Teachers will also be engaging in professional learning around the platform to enhance teaching and learning outcomes in literacy.

Year 2 – iPad Reminders

A few important reminders for our Year 2 students and families:

  • iPads must be carried in school bags when moving to and from class.

  • While waiting for classrooms to open in the morning, students are not to use their iPads.

  • During school hours, students should only access school-approved apps.

  • Messaging services are not permitted during school time.

Thank you for your support in ensuring responsible and respectful technology use at school.

BayView Values

Supporting Positive Behaviour Together

As we move through a busy term filled with assessment, reporting, and a variety of exciting celebrations, it's natural to see some changes in student behaviour, attitudes, and actions from time to time.

At BayView State School, we remain committed to the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach, promoting consistent expectations and reinforcing our school values across all year levels.

We encourage families to continue teaching and modelling our School Values at home. It’s always wonderful to hear parents using the same positive language during pick-ups and drop-offs—it makes a real difference!

When positive behaviours are modelled consistently, our students take notice, follow suit, and show pride in themselves and their school. Thank you for your continued support in working together to create a respectful and safe learning environment for all.
