Netball News
Last Thursday Bayview sent two teams to the inaugural Metropolitan East Netball Carnival in Coorparoo. It was a busy and enjoyable day filled with teamwork, new friendships, and plenty of learning. Our senior team finished second in their pool before coming up against some tough opponents in the finals. Meanwhile, our junior team had four wins across their pool matches and into the finals. Overall, it was a fantastic day of netball and Bayview spirit!
Thank you to our BayView Staff, Janine Bradley, Sarah Koch and Bree Tesch.

Sport Aerobics - Mrs Sabrina Tully

Drama - Ms Deb Bowe
Here at Bayview, Drama isn’t just about putting on a show—it’s a powerful and engaging tool for learning! Through Drama, students build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills. They develop empathy by stepping into different roles and perspectives, and they learn to communicate, problem-solve, and think critically—all whilst having fun!
The Australian Drama Curriculum provides meaningful opportunities to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures - exploring stories, traditions, and performance styles, deepening their understanding of the world’s oldest living cultures.
Drama allows students to investigate themes of sustainability through storytelling and role-play, encouraging them to reflect on their impact on the environment and imagine positive futures for us all.
All Drama lessons closely align with the content our children are learning in their regular classrooms and support them with skills they can transfer into other learning areas.
Our kids at Bayview are building BIG skills while having BIG fun! We imagine, create, and laugh our way through learning. Let’s celebrate the magic of the Arts!
Fun in Drama...

Instrumental Music News
It’s been a whirlwind of music, energy, and achievement for BayView’s talented band musicians!
Last week, both our Junior and Senior Bands took to the stage at the Redlands Eisteddfod — and what a performance they delivered! Making their debut appearance, the BayView Junior Band impressed both the audience and adjudicators, earning a Highly Commended in the Primary Beginner Concert Band section. A great start for this new ensemble! Meanwhile, our Senior Band delivered a polished performance, proudly taking home 2nd Prize in the Small Primary School Concert Band section— a fantastic achievement that reflects their excellent teamwork and dedication. A special congratulations to Abel, Sidney, and Jamie from Year 4, who demonstrated versatility and commitment by performing in both bands — well done!
The bands were conducted by Dr Karen Lonsdale, our Senior Instrumental Music Teacher. We are grateful to the Redlands Eisteddfod for creating this fabulous performance opportunity for our young musicians.
This week, the excitement continued as both bands took the stage again at BayView’s ‘World of Sound’ Concert'.
Looking ahead:
- From Week 7, the Junior and Senior Bands will combine to form one dynamic ensemble.
- In Week 8, many of our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in Intermediate Music Week, so BVSS band and group lessons will be paused for that week.
BayView’s band programme is thriving — and there’s more to come! Year 3 students will soon have the opportunity to express their interest in playing a band instrument at school in 2026! More details soon!

Healthy Lunchboxes
What is healthy eating?
Healthy eating means choosing a wide variety of foods every day from the five food groups:
- plenty of vegetables of different types and colours
- fruit
- grain (cereal) foods, mostly wholegrain, such as breads, cereals, rice, pasta and noodles
- lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds, legumes/beans
- milk, yoghurt and cheese
Lunches and snacks play a big role in supplying children with their daily nutritional needs. Nearly half of a child's daily nutrition needs should be met during the hours they are at school. Always start your child’s day with a healthy breakfast. If you pack a lunchbox for your child, include at least one item from each of the five food groups listed above for healthy growth and development. And remember, water is the best thirst quencher!
Lunch and snack ideas
- Wraps, rolls or sandwiches
- Pita bread pizzas
- Noodle, rice or pasta
- salads
- Frittata
- Dip and vegie sticks
- Corn on the cob
- Air-popped popcorn
- Fresh or frozen fruit
- Cheese and crackers
- Rice paper rolls
- Sushi

Corporate Services News
Late Arrival and Early Departure Procedures
At BayView State School, we strive to minimise interruptions to valuable learning time. While we understand that occasionally students may arrive late or need to leave early, we have procedures in place to ensure their safety and to maintain a smooth school day.
Late Arrival: Any student arriving after 8:30 am is considered late.
Reporting to the Office: If your child arrives late or needs to leave early, please report to the school office.
Early/Late Slip: Office staff will issue an Early/Late slip, which the student must take to their class or present when leaving the school.
We ask for your support in ensuring that these procedures are followed so that all students can arrive safely and on time to their classrooms.
Advising the School of an absence
If your child is absent and you haven't notified the school, you will receive an SMS asking for an explanation of their absence. Please respond on the same day that you receive the SMS. There are several ways to advise the school of an absence:
Use QParents
Call the student absence line: 3206 5266
Email: absence@bayviewss.eq.edu.au
Please do not send SMS messages unless you are replying to our absence message.
Finance
If you have any finance questions, please contact our Business Manager, Kristin Hill khill313@eq.edu.au or Cara Dyer cdyer44@eq.edu.au. We are happy to help with any queries regarding invoices, payment plans, financial hardship or general student account questions.
Phones Away for the Day
To support students' focus and minimize distractions, all students are asked to sign in their phones at Corporate Services during school hours. This ensures that they can fully engage in learning, build friendships, and remain present throughout the school day.
Administration of Medication
Does your child need medication during school hours?
If your child needs to take medication at school, please provide the office staff with:
- a completed and signed Consent to administer medication form;
- the medication in its original container; and
- medical authorisation (e.g. the pharmacy label, or a letter from the doctor, or a completed and signed health action plan).
For further information, please refer to the Information for parents/carers and health practitioners.
If you have any queries, please contact Corporate Services.
If my child has to take medication at school, how will the doctor know what paperwork the school needs?
When you next visit your child’s doctor (or other health practitioner), you could give them a copy of the Administration of medications in Queensland state schools: Information for parents/carers and health practitioners.
This document explains what advice they need to provide to help the school to safely administer medication to your child.
Easy medication packaging
If your child takes tablets or capsules each day, you can ask the pharmacist to pack them individually in sachets, blister packs or bubble packs. This packaging is known as a ‘dose administration aid’ (or DAA) and has the pharmacy label instructions as part of the packaging.
Medication safety at school
If your child requires medication at school, there are some things you can do to help.
- Only provide medication that has been medically authorised.
- Check that the medication hasn’t expired.
- Provide medication in the pharmacy packaging.
- Hand medication to the school in person.
- Collect unused medication in person.
- Provide a pill-cutter if tablets need to be halved or quartered or arrange for the pharmacist to package the medication using a dose administration aid.
Voluntary Contributions
We invite all parents to participate in our Voluntary Resource Contribution Scheme of $100 per student per year. These valuable contributions directly support the cost of providing a wide range of Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, and Creative Arts resources for our students. Payment can be made at Corporate Services on Tuesday or Thursday mornings. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!
QParents Reminder: Digital Consent Management
BayView State School are now using a digital consent management system for all excursions and camps.
Important Reminder:
The digital consent management system will be available starting Term 2.
Families who do not have a QParents account will need to come to the school to collect hard copy consent forms, as these will not be available for students to take home.
We look forward to offering this more efficient and paper-free solution to keep you informed and engaged with your child's school activities.
Kristin Hill, Kerry Brown, Vicki O'Sullivan & Cara Dyer

School-approved navy shorts or skorts (no cargo or pocketed shorts)
Cool Weather Options:
School tracksuit top (preferred) or plain navy jumper
School tracksuit pants or navy leggings/stockings (must cover the feet)
Beanies, scarves, and gloves are allowed in cold weather
Thank you for supporting our uniform policy.

Safety Reminder – Modelling Safe Behaviour for Our Students
We would like to remind all parents and carers about the importance of modelling safe behaviours during school drop-off and pick-up times. Our students look to adults for guidance, and we ask for your support in reinforcing the messages we give them at school.
🔸 Cycling and Walking Through Bushland Areas
Please do not ride bikes or e-bikes along the main spine or down to the back car park and avoid walking through bush areas as a shortcut. These paths are not designated for access, and using them sets a poor example for students, who are being explicitly told not to do so.
🔸 Electric Scooters and E-Bikes
For safety reasons, electric scooters and electric bikes should not be brought to school by either students or parents.
🔸 Bicycle Use Near Vintage Drive
At the end of the day, students must not ride their bikes down the pathway toward Vintage Drive.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep all students and families safe — and in modelling the safe, respectful behaviours we expect from our students.
School Values
Living Our School Values – At School, At Home, and In the Community
We encourage all members of our BayView community to continue leading by example by modelling our school values every day. These values are not just for the classroom—they are essential in helping our students grow into respectful, responsible, and kind members of society.
How can this look at home and in the community?
Here are a few simple ways families can help reinforce our values beyond the school gate:
Be Inclusive – Embrace and celebrate diversity, encourage friendships with different people, and ensure everyone feels welcome and valued.
Be Respectful – Model polite language, active listening, and thoughtful behaviour—whether at home, in public, or online.
Be Responsible – Encourage children to take ownership of their actions and belongings, help with tasks at home, and develop independence in daily routines.
Be Your Best Self – Support children to set personal goals, try their hardest, learn from mistakes, and be proud of their efforts.
Thank you for continuing to support our students in living these values both at school and beyond. Together, we’re helping them grow into kind, capable, and confident individuals.
