BayView State School - Term 3, Week 3
Principal, Mr David Cooke
Good afternoon families
What a day! As I walked into my office this morning, I was overwhelmed with the displays that were placed on my walls from all the students. Today was Principals Day and to read the positive messages from staff and students as pictured has filled my cup and reinforced that I have chosen the best career, and I know that I am in the best school community in the 26 years I have been a teacher.
Being principal of BayView Sate School has been the most professionally rewarding period of my career. The leap into primary education has had its challenges however this has been made significantly easier due to the amazing staff of the school, the professional and supportive leadership team, the parent community and more importantly the students.
Today I have been able to see the impact I have had on the students and the school, and I would like to thank the staff who organised such a wonderful gift. To see words like, understanding, fun, funny, banter, and statements like “you give everybody a fair go” and “you genuinely care for students and their wellbeing” has renewed my energy for the remainder of the year.
Next week we will also celebrate the academic achievements of some of our year 3 to 6 students. As I have previously mentioned, our school has had consistent academic growth over the last two and a half years with an acceleration in 2025. As I read through all of the report cards, I noticed there were several students who were achieving A’s in three or more subjects.
At next Tuesday’s senior parade, we will celebrate these students with a Certificate and then a celebration lunch will follow in the coming weeks. Congratulations to all these students and I look forward to many more students achieving academic excellence over the coming academic reporting periods.
Please be aware that there is a magpie who is swooping around the Vintage Drive area. Could I ask that parents discuss with all students who use this entrance to keep facing forward, walk bikes into the school ground to avoid falling off and to report to Corporate Services if they have been hit by the magpie.
Have an amazing weekend!
David

Bullying No Way Week 11–15 August 2025
Bullying No Way Week is Australia's key bullying prevention initiative for schools. It provides an opportunity for schools to create a shared understanding about bullying behaviours and share their bullying prevention policies and strategies. This year’s theme is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'
It takes courage to spark change. Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate. Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied. While parents and teachers are there to support children learn how to behave in a positive way. At BayView, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted.
In the lead up to Bullying No Way Week, students will be exploring this year’s theme through a range of different class activities. The school will also acknowledge this important week at a whole school assembly in week 5, on Tuesday the 12th of August. Students can also wear purple (sun safe clothing) on Friday the 15th of August to show their support and help raise awareness about bullying prevention.
Puggles Playgroup
Our weekly Playgroup, which is held every Thursday, has received a fantastic response! Through story time and play-based learning, children are beginning to build early literacy skills and form positive connections with school life. It’s been a joy to watch our youngest learners grow in confidence and curiosity.
Prep 2026
Interview Bookings are now open for Prep 2026. A reminder that Enrolment Applications are now due, so if you are still to enrol, could you please advise our Enrolments Officer on vosul6@eq.edu.au
Fruit Snack Reminder
Please remember to pack a fruit snack for your child each day – apples, bananas, berries, or any fresh fruit they enjoy! A healthy start helps them stay focused and ready to learn.

Late Arrival and Early Departure Procedures
At BayView State School, we strive to minimise interruptions to valuable learning time. While we understand that occasionally students may arrive late or need to leave early, we have procedures in place to ensure their safety and to maintain a smooth school day.
Late Arrival: Any student arriving after 8:30 am is considered late.
Reporting to the Office: If your child arrives late or needs to leave early, please report to the school office.
Early/Late Slip: Office staff will issue an Early/Late slip, which the student must take to their class or present when leaving the school.
We ask for your support in ensuring that these procedures are followed so that all students can arrive safely and on time to their classrooms.
Advising the School of an absence
If your child is absent and you haven't notified the school, you will receive an SMS asking for an explanation of their absence. Please respond on the same day that you receive the SMS.
There are several ways to advise the school of an absence:
Use QParents
Call the student absence line: 3206 5266
Email: absence@bayviewss.eq.edu.au
Please do not send SMS messages unless you are replying to our absence message.
Finance
If you have any finance questions, please contact our Business Manager, Kristin Hill khill313@eq.edu.au or Cara Dyer cdyer44@eq.edu.au. We are happy to help with any queries regarding invoices, payment plans, financial hardship or general student account questions.
Phones Away for the Day
To support students' focus and minimize distractions, all students are asked to sign in their phones at Corporate Services during school hours. This ensures that they can fully engage in learning, build friendships, and remain present throughout the school day.
Administration of Medication
Does your child need medication during school hours?
If your child needs to take medication at school, please provide the office staff with:
- a completed and signed Consent to administer medication form;
- the medication in its original container; and
- medical authorisation (e.g. the pharmacy label, or a letter from the doctor, or a completed and signed health action plan).
For further information, please refer to the Information for parents/carers and health practitioners.
If you have any queries, please contact Corporate Services.
If my child has to take medication at school, how will the doctor know what paperwork the school needs?
When you next visit your child’s doctor (or other health practitioner), you could give them a copy of the Administration of medications in Queensland state schools: Information for parents/carers and health practitioners.
This document explains what advice they need to provide to help the school to safely administer medication to your child.
Easy medication packaging
If your child takes tablets or capsules each day, you can ask the pharmacist to pack them individually in sachets, blister packs or bubble packs. This packaging is known as a ‘dose administration aid’ (or DAA) and has the pharmacy label instructions as part of the packaging.
Medication safety at school
If your child requires medication at school, there are some things you can do to help.
- Only provide medication that has been medically authorised.
- Check that the medication hasn’t expired.
- Provide medication in the pharmacy packaging.
- Hand medication to the school in person.
- Collect unused medication in person.
- Provide a pill-cutter if tablets need to be halved or quartered or arrange for the pharmacist to package the medication using a dose administration aid.
Voluntary Contributions
We invite all parents to participate in our Voluntary Resource Contribution Scheme of $100 per student per year. These valuable contributions directly support the cost of providing a wide range of Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, and Creative Arts resources for our students. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!
QParents Reminder: Digital Consent Management
BayView State School are now using a digital consent management system for all excursions and camps.
Important Reminder:
The digital consent management system will be available starting Term 2.
Families who do not have a QParents account will need to come to the school to collect hard copy consent forms, as these will not be available for students to take home.
We look forward to offering this more efficient and paper-free solution to keep you informed and engaged with your child's school activities.

BayView State School Dress Code Reminder
All students are expected to wear the full school uniform daily as a condition of enrolment. Uniforms must be clean, in good condition, and clearly named. Interim uniforms are available if needed. As an inclusive school, BayView works with families to support cultural and religious dress variations.
Uniform (All Year Levels):
School-designed polo shirt (available at school)
School-approved navy shorts or skorts (no cargo or pocketed shorts)
Cool Weather Options:
School tracksuit top (preferred) or plain navy jumper
School tracksuit pants or navy leggings/stockings (must cover the feet)
Beanies, scarves, and gloves are allowed in cold weather
Thank you for supporting our uniform policy.

Safety Reminder – Modelling Safe Behaviour for Our Students
We would like to remind all parents and carers about the importance of modelling safe behaviours during school drop-off and pick-up times. Our students look to adults for guidance, and we ask for your support in reinforcing the messages we give them at school.
🔸 Cycling and Walking Through Bushland Areas
Please do not ride bikes or e-bikes along the main spine or down to the back car park and avoid walking through bush areas as a shortcut. These paths are not designated for access, and using them sets a poor example for students, who are being explicitly told not to do so.
🔸 Electric Scooters and E-Bikes
For safety reasons, electric scooters and electric bikes should not be brought to school by either students or parents.
🔸 Bicycle Use Near Vintage Drive
At the end of the day, students must not ride their bikes down the pathway toward Vintage Drive.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep all students and families safe — and in modelling the safe, respectful behaviours we expect from our students.
School Values
Living Our School Values – At School, At Home, and In the Community
We encourage all members of our BayView community to continue leading by example by modelling our school values every day. These values are not just for the classroom—they are essential in helping our students grow into respectful, responsible, and kind members of society.
How can this look at home and in the community?
Here are a few simple ways families can help reinforce our values beyond the school gate:
Be Inclusive – Embrace and celebrate diversity, encourage friendships with different people, and ensure everyone feels welcome and valued.
Be Respectful – Model polite language, active listening, and thoughtful behaviour—whether at home, in public, or online.
Be Responsible – Encourage children to take ownership of their actions and belongings, help with tasks at home, and develop independence in daily routines.
Be Your Best Self – Support children to set personal goals, try their hardest, learn from mistakes, and be proud of their efforts.
Thank you for continuing to support our students in living these values both at school and beyond. Together, we’re helping them grow into kind, capable, and confident individuals.

Uniform Shop
Please note our Uniform Shop is open every Tuesday morning between 8.00am and 9.00am.
Please make sure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name, especially jackets — they’re the most commonly misplaced! Labelled items are much more likely to be returned quickly.
What's On

There is less than one month until the Bullying No Way: National week of action – 11 to 15 August 2025.
This year’s theme is: “Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.”
To mark this important week, we will hold a whole school assembly in Week 5 to acknowledge the theme and its importance.
Bullying is everyone’s responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate. Students can be bold, kind and speak up to support others being bullied. Schools, families and communities are there to support children and young people learn how to be kind to each other and report bullying.
This Bullying No Way Week, we’re asking everyone to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to speak up against bullying.
