BayView State School - Term 2, Week 6

BayView's Biggest Morning Tea
A heartfelt thank you to all the families who supported our Cancer Council Fundraiser today—whether through gold coin donations or by joining your child for morning tea.
Although the wet weather kept us off the oval, the spirit of the event shone through. The school was awash in a sea of yellow for free dress, bringing colour and energy to the day. A great time was had by all!
Your generosity and participation make a real difference—thank you for being part of such a meaningful cause.
Puggles Playgroup
Our weekly Playgroup, which is held every Thursday, has received a fantastic response! Through story time and play-based learning, children are beginning to build early literacy skills and form positive connections with school life. It’s been a joy to watch our youngest learners grow in confidence and curiosity.
Before & After School Waiting Areas
We kindly ask all parents and carers to wait in the Central Covered Area when dropping off or picking up children before and after school. This helps to reduce congestion in the spine area and ensures a smoother flow of students and families. If you have younger children with you, please ensure they are directly supervised at all times. A reminder that the Early Years playground is out of bounds during school hours, as learning is still taking place nearby. A big thank you to the families who are helping us maintain a calm and focused learning environment by keeping younger children out of this space during class time. Your support makes a real difference.
QParents
BayView State School is transitioning to the QParents online platform for managing student-related information, including permissions and payments. If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you create your QParents account as soon as possible. For families not yet using QParents, hard copies of permission forms and payments for excursions, camps, and incursions will need to be collected by a parent from Corporate Services.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements. The theme for 2025, Bridging Now to Next, urges us to look ahead and continue to push forward as past lessons guide us. It also calls for Australians to step forward together. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

BayView Junior and Senior Concert Bands Prepare for Exciting Performances and Assessments
The BayView Junior and Senior Concert Bands are diligently preparing for upcoming performances and assessments this term. Students are eagerly working towards showcasing their talents at the school’s Multicultural Day in June and the prestigious Redlands Eisteddfod in August. Alongside their ensemble rehearsals, students have been recording scales and solo pieces as part of their Instrumental Music assessments, demonstrating steady progress and commitment.
Looking ahead, our Year 4 band students are gearing up for Beginner Music Week in Week 9. This special program offers beginner musicians the chance to rehearse and perform alongside peers of a similar skill level from other schools in the region. Participants will benefit from the guidance of several talented conductors from different schools, providing a rich and collaborative learning experience.
We are proud of all our band members for their hard work and enthusiasm, and we look forward to their continued growth and success throughout the term!

Late Arrival and Early Departure Procedures
At BayView State School, we strive to minimise interruptions to valuable learning time. While we understand that occasionally students may arrive late or need to leave early, we have procedures in place to ensure their safety and to maintain a smooth school day.
Late Arrival: Any student arriving after 8:30 am is considered late.
Reporting to the Office: If your child arrives late or needs to leave early, please report to the school office.
Early/Late Slip: Office staff will issue an Early/Late slip, which the student must take to their class or present when leaving the school.
We ask for your support in ensuring that these procedures are followed so that all students can arrive safely and on time to their classrooms.
Advising the School of an absence
If your child is absent and you haven't notified the school, you will receive an SMS asking for an explanation of their absence. Please respond on the same day that you receive the SMS.
There are several ways to advise the school of an absence:
Use QParents
Call the student absence line: 3206 5266
Email: absence@bayviewss.eq.edu.au
Please do not send SMS messages unless you are replying to our absence message.
Finance
If you have any finance questions, please contact our Business Manager, Kristin Hill khill313@eq.edu.au or Cara Dyer cdyer44@eq.edu.au. We are happy to help with any queries regarding invoices, payment plans, financial hardship or general student account questions.
Phones Away for the Day
To support students' focus and minimize distractions, all students are asked to sign in their phones at Corporate Services during school hours. This ensures that they can fully engage in learning, build friendships, and remain present throughout the school day.
Administration of Medication
If you wish to have medication held on-site for your child, please visit the 'Forms and Documents' section of the newsletter to download the required form. Once completed, please return it to Corporate Services.
Voluntary Contributions
We invite all parents to participate in our Voluntary Resource Contribution Scheme of $100 per student per year. These valuable contributions directly support the cost of providing a wide range of Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, and Creative Arts resources for our students. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!
QParents Reminder: Digital Consent Management
BayView State School are transitioning to a digital consent management system for all excursions and camps.
Important Reminder:
The digital consent management system will be available starting Term 2.
Families who do not have a QParents account will need to come to the school to collect hard copy consent forms, as these will not be available for students to take home.
We look forward to offering this more efficient and paper-free solution to keep you informed and engaged with your child's school activities.

School Values
Living Our School Values – At School, At Home, and In the Community
We encourage all members of our BayView community to continue leading by example by modelling our school values every day. These values are not just for the classroom—they are essential in helping our students grow into respectful, responsible, and kind members of society.
How can this look at home and in the community?
Here are a few simple ways families can help reinforce our values beyond the school gate:
Be Inclusive – Embrace and celebrate diversity, encourage friendships with different people, and ensure everyone feels welcome and valued.
Be Respectful – Model polite language, active listening, and thoughtful behaviour—whether at home, in public, or online.
Be Responsible – Encourage children to take ownership of their actions and belongings, help with tasks at home, and develop independence in daily routines.
Be Your Best Self – Support children to set personal goals, try their hardest, learn from mistakes, and be proud of their efforts.
Thank you for continuing to support our students in living these values both at school and beyond. Together, we’re helping them grow into kind, capable, and confident individuals.

Safety Reminder – Modelling Safe Behaviour for Our Students
We would like to remind all parents and carers about the importance of modelling safe behaviours during school drop-off and pick-up times. Our students look to adults for guidance, and we ask for your support in reinforcing the messages we give them at school.
🔸 Cycling and Walking Through Bushland Areas
Please do not ride bikes or e-bikes along the main spine or down to the back car park and avoid walking through bush areas as a shortcut. These paths are not designated for access, and using them sets a poor example for students, who are being explicitly told not to do so.
🔸 Electric Scooters and E-Bikes
For safety reasons, electric scooters and electric bikes should not be brought to school by either students or parents.
🔸 Bicycle Use Near Vintage Drive
At the end of the day, students must not ride their bikes down the pathway toward Vintage Drive.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep all students and families safe — and in modelling the safe, respectful behaviours we expect from our students.

Uniform Shop
Please note our Uniform Shop is open every Tuesday morning between 8.00am and 9.00am.
Please make sure all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name, especially jackets — they’re the most commonly misplaced! Labelled items are much more likely to be returned quickly.
