Deputy Principal News - Mrs Shiolan Ferrer

Hello P-2 Families,

It’s hard to believe that the end of Semester 1 is already approaching!

Over the next couple of weeks (Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 2), our students will be busy completing their assessments for the Reporting Period. Please help support your little ones by encouraging regular routines at home, including time for play and plenty of rest, as the semester draws to a close.

Semester 1 has been filled with many exciting and enriching experiences. Across our P–2 cohort, students have been making great progress through our Structured Synthetic Phonics program. You may have already noticed improvements in how confidently your children are decoding and encoding sounds and recognising letter patterns. Their understanding of sound–letter correspondence continues to grow, and many have engaged enthusiastically with their decodable readers from PLD and Decodable Readers Australia.

In writing, our students have worked hard on Information and Narrative Texts, developing their ability to respond to what they’ve read and to express their own ideas in structured writing. If you have a chance to visit your child’s classroom, we encourage you to check out the Learning Walls. These displays act as a "third teacher" in the classroom and are used actively by students as both a reference and a learning support.

We also have our Track and Field Events coming up in Week 10. Despite the cold weather, our P-2 students have been working hard during their PE lessons, to prepare for the Track and Field events.  We’d love to see families there to cheer on our young athletes!

Week 10

Also in Week 10, we’ll be celebrating our Parade of Nations during the middle session on Friday. This is always a highlight and a wonderful way to end the semester while celebrating the message: With diversity, we have unity! Family and friends are warmly invited to join us. Students and staff will be dressed in national costumes or the colours of their heritage, and parents are welcome to dress up too if they wish!

This event is a vibrant celebration that honours Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, Bastille Day, Harmony Day, and Multicultural Day - a true reflection of our inclusive Bayview community.

Please note that Puggles will not be running in Week 10, but will resume in Term 3, Week 2, continuing every Thursday through to Week 9.

Have a safe and wonderful break to all our P-2 families and Bayview Community. Keep safe.

Shi Ferrer

BayView Values

Supporting Positive Behaviour Together

As we move through a busy term filled with assessment, reporting, and a variety of exciting celebrations, it's natural to see some changes in student behaviour, attitudes, and actions from time to time.

At BayView State School, we remain committed to the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach, promoting consistent expectations and reinforcing our school values across all year levels.

We encourage families to continue teaching and modelling our School Values at home. It’s always wonderful to hear parents using the same positive language during pick-ups and drop-offs—it makes a real difference!

When positive behaviours are modelled consistently, our students take notice, follow suit, and show pride in themselves and their school. Thank you for your continued support in working together to create a respectful and safe learning environment for all.
