Strengthening Early Years Connections at BayView State School
BayView State School was proud to recently host the Early Years Networking Team, which brings together local Kindergartens and Early Childhood Centres from across the Redlands. This collaborative team will now meet once each term to strengthen professional connections, share insights around the Early Years Learning Framework, and support each other in ensuring smooth school transitions for young learners.
We’re already seeing exciting developments in this space! Our school is actively building partnerships, including with Puggles Playgroup, and warmly welcoming Kindergartens and Early Childhood Centres to visit, explore our facilities, and engage in P–2 learning activities.
Puggles Playgroup
Our weekly Playgroup, which is held every Thursday, has received a fantastic response! Through story time and play-based learning, children are beginning to build early literacy skills and form positive connections with school life. It’s been a joy to watch our youngest learners grow in confidence and curiosity.
Before & After School Waiting Areas
We kindly ask all parents and carers to wait in the Central Covered Area when dropping off or picking up children before and after school. This helps to reduce congestion in the spine area and ensures a smoother flow of students and families. If you have younger children with you, please ensure they are directly supervised at all times. A reminder that the Early Years playground is out of bounds during school hours, as learning is still taking place nearby.
A big thank you to the families who are helping us maintain a calm and focused learning environment by keeping younger children out of this space during class time. Your support makes a real difference.
Under 8’s Week – Donations Welcome
Our P–2 students will be celebrating Under 8’s Week on Thursday, 23 May 2025! To help make this a fun and memorable event, we are reaching out to our wonderful parent community for donations of craft and activity materials. If you’re able to contribute, we’re looking for items such as:
Pipe cleaners
Brown paper bags
Playdough
Coloured art beads
Coloured streamers
Glitter
Bubble mixture
Plastic cups
Coloured pens and felt-tip markers
Donations can be placed on the collection table located at Corporate Services.
QParents
BayView State School is transitioning to the QParents online platform for managing student-related information, including permissions and payments. If you haven’t already done so, please ensure you create your QParents account as soon as possible. For families not yet using QParents, hard copies of permission forms and payments for excursions, camps, and incursions will need to be collected and submitted via the school office.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements. The theme for 2025, Bridging Now to Next, urges us to look ahead and continue to push forward as past lessons guide us. It also calls for Australians to step forward together. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

PE News, Mr Bennett & Mr Ellis

Our Prep students had a fantastic time participating in the Cross Country in Week 2! The sun was shining, the smiles were wide, and the energy was high. It was wonderful to see our youngest learners giving it their all and enjoying the experience. Well done Preps!
4 Amber celebrating Harmony Day

Thank You for Representing BayView State School
A big thank you to Mr Cooke, Ms De Block, Mrs Sharp, and our 2025 Student Leaders for proudly representing BayView State School at the Redlands RSL Community March. Despite the early start and very wet weather, your dedication and community spirit truly shone through. We are incredibly proud of your commitment and leadership.
Redlands RSL Community March - 25 April 2025

BayView SS ANZAC Service - 24 April. Thank you to all of our class representatives who took part in our ceremony.
Technology, Ms Raelene Murphy
In Technology, our Preps have started exploring materials that are waterproof and suitable for building a dam wall, sparking early curiosity in engineering and design.
Grades 3 and 4 are busy coding their LEGO Spike robots to solve everyday transport problems. Soon, they’ll apply their skills to a new challenge—designing and coding robots to support the cotton production process.
Grades 5 and 6 have been diving into block coding with Microbits, creating animations, emotion badges, and step counters. They’re beginning to understand how simple programs can form the foundation for real-world problem-solving.

Late Arrival and Early Departure Procedures
At BayView State School, we strive to minimise interruptions to valuable learning time. While we understand that occasionally students may arrive late or need to leave early, we have procedures in place to ensure their safety and to maintain a smooth school day.
Late Arrival: Any student arriving after 8:30 am is considered late.
Reporting to the Office: If your child arrives late or needs to leave early, please report to the school office.
Early/Late Slip: Office staff will issue an Early/Late slip, which the student must take to their class or present when leaving the school.
We ask for your support in ensuring that these procedures are followed so that all students can arrive safely and on time to their classrooms.
Advising the School of an absence
If your child is absent without prior notice, you will receive an SMS asking for an explanation of their absence. Please respond on the same day that you receive the SMS.
There are several ways to advise the school of an absence:
Use QParents
Call the student absence line: 3206 5266
Email: absence@bayviewss.eq.edu.au
Please do not send SMS messages unless you are replying to our absence message.
Finance
If you have any finance questions, please contact our Business Manager, Kristin Hill khill313@eq.edu.au or Cara Dyer cdyer44@eq.edu.au. We are happy to help with any queries regarding invoices, payment plans, financial hardship or general student account questions.
Phones Away for the Day
To support students' focus and minimize distractions, all students are asked to sign in their phones at Corporate Services during school hours. This ensures that they can fully engage in learning, build friendships, and remain present throughout the school day.
Administration of Medication
If you wish to have medication held on-site for your child, please visit the 'Forms and Documents' section of the newsletter to download the required form. Once completed, please return it to Corporate Services.
Voluntary Contributions
We invite all parents to participate in our Voluntary Resource Contribution Scheme of $100 per student per year. These valuable contributions directly support the cost of providing a wide range of Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, and Creative Arts resources for our students. Your contribution is greatly appreciated!
QParents Reminder: Digital Consent Management
This term, BayView State School are transitioning to a digital consent management system for all excursions and camps. This change means that parents will no longer need to worry about paper forms getting lost or left at school. Instead, you will be able to provide consent online, making the process more convenient for everyone. By moving to this digital platform, we can streamline our internal processes, and you'll be able to link both payment and consent forms in one place. This will make the experience easier for both parents and staff.
Important Reminder:
The digital consent management system will be available starting Term 2.
Families who do not have a QParents account will need to come to the school to collect hard copy consent forms, as these will not be available for students to take home.
We look forward to offering this more efficient and paper-free solution to keep you informed and engaged with your child's school activities.

Lost Property – Unnamed Water Bottles
We currently have a number of unnamed water bottles in our lost property collection. If your child is missing theirs, please check the lost property area to see if it’s been handed in. To help us return items more easily in the future, please ensure all water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Thank you for your support!
School Values
Living Our School Values – At School, At Home, and In the Community
We encourage all members of our BayView community to continue leading by example by modelling our school values every day. These values are not just for the classroom—they are essential in helping our students grow into respectful, responsible, and kind members of society.
How can this look at home and in the community?
Here are a few simple ways families can help reinforce our values beyond the school gate:
Be Inclusive – Embrace and celebrate diversity, encourage friendships with different people, and ensure everyone feels welcome and valued.
Be Respectful – Model polite language, active listening, and thoughtful behaviour—whether at home, in public, or online.
Be Responsible – Encourage children to take ownership of their actions and belongings, help with tasks at home, and develop independence in daily routines.
Be Your Best Self – Support children to set personal goals, try their hardest, learn from mistakes, and be proud of their efforts.
Thank you for continuing to support our students in living these values both at school and beyond. Together, we’re helping them grow into kind, capable, and confident individuals.
