It’s amazing how fast Term 1 has flown, with Week 9 already here!
There’s been so many amazing and incredible experiences that our P-2 sector has seen and achieved; and I want to thank our parent community, for supporting our P-2 sector every step of the way.
This is the last edition of newsletters for P-2 for Term 1 and more updates to come for Term 2.

Congratulations to all our prep students who have transitioned fully into school. It’s been great to see each of you all grow in your own way and experience new changes like following a structured timetable, making new friends and learning to go to different specialist lessons and being taught by different teachers. You have all managed to work with each other and form new connections with both younger and older peers, throughout Term 1! Well done students.
Playground
The playground is out of bounds in the morning and afternoon. Only students attending Jabiru will have access and they will be accompanied by a Jabiru staff member.
Technology News for Prep
From Farm to Supermarket. The Prep students have been learning all about how apples travel from the farm to the supermarket. They were particularly fascinated by the technology involved, including computers that take 3D photos of apples to check for bruises! This sparked lots of curiosity and questions about how technology helps ensure the food we eat is of high quality. In addition, the Preps have started growing their own seeds. Their first crop? Mung Bean sprouts! These healthy little sprouts were donated to the Cafe, allowing students to experience the full cycle of growth and contribution.

Year 1 & 2 News
Our Year 1 & 2 students have been busy working on building their understandings of stories and specifically looking at different perspectives of a character, setting and plotted events.
Students across these year levels are also strengthening their understanding of explicit vocabulary and how certain words help to depict the mood, mode or tenor of a given piece of written and verbal texts.
Our students in these different year levels are learning to offer their opinions around given texts and are learning to justify their reasoning for their opinions.
Select classes have also been looking at developing surveys and demonstrating their data via use of different graphs. They are using real-life events in order to graph and show data outputs.
For Science, our student in the Early Years Sector attended a Street Science Incursion. Students had the opportunity to be scientists for a day and were able to see Science in a fun and engaging way.
Across the Year 1-6 sector, we have also developed our Barna Jarjum student team, which our Barna Jarjum Student Leader Jack M, is helping to lead. Every Monday, second break we have student representatives who are working together as First Nation students, in trying to plan and eventually execute Cultural Learnings and activities for our students to be part of. Together, this group of students are walking on Country and fostering connections, not only within their year levels but across the school.
Term 2 will be an exciting time for this team, who will lead in embedding indigenous perspectives and First Nations activities in the school.
Morning procedures
No students should be arriving before 8am without a parent unless attending Jabiru or a school-based activity e.g. Run Club, Sports Aerobics etc. All students and parents are to remain in the Central Covered Area (near the Cafe) prior to being released by a member of staff. Students are to be sitting down and waiting quietly. No one should be heading down towards the classrooms unless you have a morning meeting with your classroom teacher.
Additionally, classroom doors are not required to be open until the morning bell. Providing access to the room earlier is at the discretion of the classroom teacher and a courtesy to allow students to settle into their day. However, mornings can be very busy with meetings, coaching sports aerobics, planning for a fun filled day and even getting our own children ready for their school day. We appreciate your understanding and patience on this matter.
Whilst waiting to be released from the Central Covered Area or waiting for the classroom door to open please encourage children to use the toilet.
Afternoon procedures
Parents and caregivers please wait in the central covered area or on the concrete blocks near the central covered area. It is very distracting for students to see their parents waiting outside their room. Once the bell has gone then feel free to move to the classrooms.
Year 2 Students iPads
Please remind students that their iPads must be carried in their bags to and from the classroom. In the mornings whilst waiting for the door to be open students are not to be playing on their iPad. Only school approved apps are to be accessed during school hours and students are not to use any messaging services to contact anyone during this time also.
Labelling
ALL items (hats, water bottles, fruit snack containers etc) need to be labelled with student's names. We can't get items back to you if there is no name. Items that are not labelled will be sent to Lost Property at Corporate Services.

Shout Out!
Thank you to Baker’s Delight-Victoria Point who have been donating loaves of bread for our school. You might find that your child has come home with a loaf of bread! Baker’s Delight is providing this for free and rotational rounds across P-2 will be circulated, so all families will receive this generous gift.

BayView Values
As the term closes to an end, we just ask all parents to please remind our P-2 students around the school values and ensuring to follow the school rules.
Please also encourage children to report any issues or concerns to their classroom teacher, a playground duty teacher/aide and Admin is also another set of adults, students can go to, if needing support or assistance.
