Principal, Mr David Cooke

Good afternoon families

What an end to the term with our annual Easter Bonet parade.  Some very excited and tired prep kids proudly showed their creations to the school as they finish their first term of their education journey.

We have had an amazing first term and I would like to thank the students and the staff for their hard work and commitment to learning. There are many things to celebrate which were on show in our end of term celebration parade on Monday.

I would like to particularly draw attention to the Junior Strings ensemble who after just one year of instrumental music lessons, performed with confidence and sounded absolutely amazing.

Thank you to Mr Bennett and Mr Ellis for their coordination of the year 4 to 6 cross country on Tuesday.  Congratulations to those who were able to secure the age championship medal, however I would also like to acknowledge every student that participated on the day and secured a point for their team.

Cross Country running is not for everyone however it was pleasing to see that as each runner crossed the line, they were being cheered on by their house teammates.  The champion house and age champions will be presented at a school assembly in term two.

Please have an amazing break, stay safe and provide plenty of time for our students your kids to rest and recover ready for term two.

Hopefully Parramatta can get a win across the break.

David

QParents Reminder:  Digital Consent Management

Next term the school will be moving to digital consent management for all excursions and camps.  This will mean that parents will be able to provide digital consent and not have to worry about the paper forms being lost at the bottom of the bag or left at school.  Moving to this platform will streamline our internal processes as well as being able to link payment and consent forms in the one platform.

The school will migrate to digital consent management at the beginning of Term 2.  Families who do not have a QParents account will need to come to the school to collect hardcopy consent forms as these will not be available for students to take home themselves.

Technology, Ms Raelene Murphy

Our students have been diving into some exciting and hands-on learning in Technology, exploring a range of fascinating topics that link to the world around them. Here’s a peek at what your children have been up to in their Technology lessons!

Prep: From Farm to Supermarket
The Prep students have been learning all about how apples travel from the farm to the supermarket. They were particularly fascinated by the technology involved—computers that take 3D photos of apples to check for bruises! This sparked lots of curiosity and questions about how technology helps ensure the food we eat is of high quality. In addition, the Preps have started growing their own seeds. Their first crop? Mung Bean sprouts! These healthy little sprouts were donated to the CAFE, allowing students to experience the full cycle of growth and contribution.

Years 3 & 4: The Journey of Milk
In Years 3 and 4, the students have been investigating the journey of milk from the cow to our cups. They were surprised to learn about all the steps involved before milk reaches the supermarket! To reinforce their learning, they’ve been exploring the app ‘Clips’ to sequence the stages of milk production. They’ve also been using Freeform to strengthen their retrieval skills, making connections and enhancing their understanding through technology.

Years 5 & 6: Sustainable Agriculture & The Science of Learning
Our Year 5 and 6 students have been delving into the fascinating world of Sustainable Agriculture. They’ve explored different farming practices that aim to protect our environment and ensure food security for the future. At the same time, they’ve been learning about how our brains process information. They’ve explored powerful techniques to boost their memory and retention, including brain dumps, the "two things" strategy, and flashcards. These tools will not only help them in Technology but across all subjects.

To put their learning into action, the Year 5 and 6 students are now using Minecraft Education to design a sustainable backyard for a client. They must consider the client’s specific needs and justify their design choices based on the sustainability principles they have been learning in class.

We are thrilled with how engaged and motivated the students have been in these hands-on activities, using technology to support and extend their learning. It's exciting to see them make connections between what they are learning in the classroom and the real world!

Phones Away for the Day
