Deputy Principal News, Mrs Ferrer (Prep-2) - Term 1, Week 5
Deputy Principal News - Mrs Shiolan Ferrer
Hello P-2 Families,
Welcome to another edition of P-2 News from our Early Years.
As our Prep students now attend full days at school, can everyone please ensure procedures are followed for drop offs in the morning and afternoon pickups:
1. Parents are requested to wait in the Central Covered Area (CCA) to avoid congestion along the entry of the school spine.
2. The grass area in front of the Advancement Centre is an 'OUT OF BOUNDS SPACE'. It is a NO standing area; along with the Advancement Centre- (this area is only to be accessed by students, staff and or parents, who require additional Inclusion Support).
3. Once parents have dropped students to and from their Prep class, please ensure to walk away from the classroom and avoid looking into classroom windows, as teachers will be formally teaching, and we all want of our students ready to learn and be engaged in their lesson.
4. If you are parent, with a younger child, we ask for full parental supervision please. Particularly in the afternoon, as classes are still in progress, especially in the Year 1-2 areas. The Adventure Playground in the Year 1-2 area is 'OUT OF BOUNDS' during this time, so we thank parents for not using this space, to avoid class disruptions in the afternoon.
Upcoming Activities
Our Prep Family BBQ will be held this Wednesday 26th February, in the Prep Area from 3-4:30pm. Parents who are attending will need to supervise their own children during this event. Our Team looks forward to connecting with you.
Puggles Playgroup starts officially this Thursday 27th February. Please let me know, if you and your little person would like to be part of this program.

Prep News
We’ve kicked off Prep with an amazing start! Our students are settling in like pros and having an absolute blast in their classes. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been all about building friendships and routines to set the stage for an awesome year ahead.
In English, we’ve been getting to know some fun sounds like s, a, t, p, i, and n. We have also been looking at some great children's books like 'The Very Cranky Bear' 'Rodney Loses it' and 'Edward the Emu'. In Maths, we’re diving into the world of numbers 0-10. Our science adventures have us exploring cool weather events, and in HASS, we’re discovering all about families and exciting celebrations from around the world. What a fantastic start!
Playground
The playground is out of bounds in the morning and afternoon. Only students attending Jabiru will have access and they will be accompanied by a Jabiru staff member.
Technology News for Prep
From Farm to Supermarket. The Prep students have been learning all about how apples travel from the farm to the supermarket. They were particularly fascinated by the technology involved, including computers that take 3D photos of apples to check for bruises! This sparked lots of curiosity and questions about how technology helps ensure the food we eat is of high quality. In addition, the Preps have started growing their own seeds. Their first crop? Mung Bean sprouts! These healthy little sprouts were donated to the Cafe, allowing students to experience the full cycle of growth and contribution.

Year 1 & 2 News
Morning procedures
No students should be arriving before 8am without a parent unless attending Jabiru or a school-based activity e.g. Run Club, Sports Aerobics etc. All students and parents are to remain in the Central Covered Area (near the Cafe) prior to being released by a member of staff. Students are to be sitting down and waiting quietly. No one should be heading down towards the classrooms unless you have a morning meeting with your classroom teacher.
Additionally, classroom doors are not required to be open until the morning bell. Providing access to the room earlier is at the discretion of the classroom teacher and a courtesy to allow students to settle into their day. However, mornings can be very busy with meetings, coaching sports aerobics, planning for a fun filled day and even getting our own children ready for their school day. We appreciate your understanding and patience on this matter.
Whilst waiting to be released from the Central Covered Area or waiting for the classroom door to open please encourage children to use the toilet.
Afternoon procedures
Parents and caregivers please wait in the central covered area or on the concrete blocks near the central covered area. It is very distracting for students to see their parents waiting outside their room. Once the bell has gone then feel free to move to the classrooms.
Year 2 Students iPads
Please remind students that their iPads must be carried in their bags to and from the classroom. In the mornings whilst waiting for the door to be open students are not to be playing on their iPad. Only school approved apps are to be accessed during school hours and students are not to use any messaging services to contact anyone during this time also.
Labelling
ALL items (hats, water bottles, fruit snack containers etc) need to be labelled with student's names. We can't get items back to you if there is no name. Items that are not labelled will be sent to Lost Property at Corporate Services.
