Principal, Mr David Cooke
Good afternoon Parents/Carers,
What a wonderful week we have had at BayView.
This week we have held our annual STAR awards, Year 6 graduation and post-Graduation Disco.
Firstly, I would like to thank all staff and parents for your organisation of the graduation event. The night was a wonderful celebration of the student’s time at BayView, and the multi-purpose hall looked amazing. Yesterday our Year 6 cohort had an excursion to the jungle adventure playground where they got to spend some final moments of fun together as a group and then finished the day with the annual colour explosion and a Guard of Honour. I would like to congratulate all our graduating class on their work this year and wish them every success as they transition to high school in 2025.
In my speech I left the year 6 students with a quote from Taylor Swift that I thought provided a key message for life "No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind."
At our STAR awards we were able to celebrate the wonderful achievements of many of our students firstly those who completed the ICAS assessment with one of our wonderful students Sidney within the top 3% for her writing exam. We formally presented the swimming age champions with their medals and then presented some of our year 6 students with the perpetual awards for academics, all-rounder, citizenship, creative arts, cultural, sport aerobics, sport and environment.
I would like to thank the generous sponsorship of Bendigo Bank Victoria Point, Ms Rebecca Young MP Redlands, Rotary Club of Capalaba and Redlands RSL for their continued support of our STAR awards.
Please see names and photos below of our awardees pictured with our wonderful sponsors.
This term we have also worked with our year 5 students to prepare them for the process of selecting our leaders for 2025. Please see below our leaders and we will be introducing them to you across next week as we lead into the holidays.
This year like most years we have a number of staff who will be leaving our school. I would like to acknowledge the following staff and their contribution to the school over many years which was also celebrated at a recent staff morning tea.
Dave Beasley. Dave has been with us from the beginning. He has been a passionate advocate for sport in the school and is always looking for ways to get our students engaging in more sport. The students of BayView have experienced the very best of PE Teachers and Victoria Point State High are very lucky to have him join in 2025
Emma Ditton. Emma has been at the school since she graduated university and has been an excellent teacher across the early years. Emma has built strong relationships with all of her classes and always goes the extra step with supporting her students learning.
Alana Macarthur. Alana has similarly been at the school since graduating university and like Emma has a fantastic connection with the students in her class and goes the extra mile in her planning to ensure that every student is able to access the learning and have success.
Marie-Ann Sobek. Marie-Ann is going on a huge family adventure to St George and he will be missed by our community. Mrs Sobek has a wonderful ability to engage our prep students with her enthusiasm and positivity and the growth of her students this year has been exceptional.
Tracey Holmes. Tracey has had a huge impact on our Arts program in 2024 and prior to this as a year 6 teacher. Mrs Holmes has a real positivity about her and is able to extract the best out of her students through her supportive manner and the strong relationships she builds.
Treena Hunkin. Treena has been a strong advocate for BayView though her role as a teacher aide and recently has been building an excellent reputation our Puggles Playgroup alongside Sandy Macarthur. Treena had a passion for working with our students with many of them achieving academic success due to her work.
All of the staff who are leaving this year have been extraordinary assets to BayView over many years. I will miss each and every one of them and wish them every success at their new schools or retirement.
We are currently finalising all the students report cards and anticipate that they will be emailed to all parents on Wednesday or alternatively you can access through QParents.
Have an amazing weekend.
David

It's that time of year once again, when pencil cases will close, and books packed to end the 2024 year!
Congratulations to our Year 6 students, who finish their time at BayView State School, and well done for completing your primary years of schooling. May you all find success in your endeavours.
Similarly, congratulations to all our 2024 School Captains and student leaders! Each of you have represented our school, peers and community with pride.
For the 2025 student leaders, well done on your new appointed positions and may you continue to embrace making a positive difference, next year.
Across our P-6 student body, congratulations on all your efforts this year. Each of you, as students have tried your best, learnt to turn things around when needed and continued to grow in your own individual pursuits. We look forward to seeing you in 2025.
To staff, who are leaving our BayView State School family, thank you so much to each of you, for all your hard work, passion, professionalism and positive contributions. Each of you will be missed and will be remembered by many for being the amazing educators that you are.
To all our families and friends...may you all have a wonderful, festive season. Keep safe over the holidays and may 2025 be a great year for everyone!

This year, Bayview State School had 24 students from Year 2 to 6 participate in 84 individual ICAS Assessments, designed to target higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling and Digital Technologies.
A huge congratulations to each student who undertook these assessments and challenged themselves. I would like to recognise the achievements of the following students who were the recipient of an ICAS Principal’s Award for 2024. This award recognises the top achieving student across all year levels in the school for each subject area.

Student Wellbeing, Mrs Sabrina Tully
As the primary school year begins to wrap up, we start to have conversations about change and what next year may bring. Your student may face mixed emotions about the changes ahead, whether it's moving to a new class, transitioning to a new school, or simply saying goodbye to friends in their class as new groupings are formed. This can be a great time to support their resilience and help students to embrace change positively. Here are some ways to support your student through these transitions:
- Celebrate their growth: Take time at home to reflect on the progress your child has made this year. Look at old schoolwork, photos, or talk about their accomplishments. Focusing on what they’ve achieved can boost confidence and help them see transitions as part of growth.
- Encourage open conversations: Let your student express any concerns or fears they may have. For example, if they’re nervous about making new friends, share stories of your own experiences with change and how you overcame similar feelings. Listening and validating their emotions helps build their trust and emotional awareness.
- Reinforce routines: With so much change, maintaining some family routines can provide stability. For example, family game nights, weekly walks, or a favourite weekend breakfast routine can give them a sense of consistency, even as school life shifts.
- Practice resilience-building activities: Help your child view challenges as opportunities. Encourage them to set small goals, like introducing themselves to someone new at school. When they accomplish these goals, celebrate them to show that resilience and effort are valuable.
- Embrace a positive view of new experiences: Talk about the exciting possibilities ahead, such as learning new subjects or joining different activities. You might say, “This is a great time to explore new interests and skills, and you’re so ready for it!”
Supporting your child with empathy, routines, and encouragement will help them navigate this transition with confidence. By emphasizing growth, they can feel empowered to handle future changes with resilience. If you have concerns about how your student may transition into a new classroom for next year, please reach out and we can talk further.

Creative Arts
On Tuesday 19 of November, fifteen students from Year 6 spent an exciting and highly engaging day at Cleveland District State High School to take part in the annual Creative Arts Cluster Day. This excursion provided an opportunity for our creative students to engage in a range of exciting arts activities that they may not ordinarily experience in a primary school setting.
Students were split into groups and worked collaboratively with other Year 6 children from across the Bayside cluster schools in each activity. Each group participated in Hip Hop and Street Dance, an African Drumming Workshop, a Visual Arts Workshop and Drama (Theatre Sports Activities).
Our students were exemplary representatives of our school, enthusiastically engaging in all activities, demonstrating the BayView Values at all times, and demonstrating their passion for creativity and the arts. Congratulations to all students who attended on the day!
