Principal, Mr Cooke

We have had a wonderful term here at BayView with so many wonderful achievements and events.

This term we had our wonderful Music night featuring our choirs, strong ensembles and our junior and senior bands.  Music forms part of a well-rounded education and complements academic learning through student having to decipher a new language consisting of nates and then translating this into physical movements to create a sound.  Learning an instrument uses both sides of the brain and strengthens the brains’ ability to learn and retain new information.  I would encourage all parents to promote learning music as it is also a lifelong skill demonstrated by the staff, past student and student band.

Sport Aerobics Nationals, District and regional Cross Country and Athletics, Father’s Day stall, Café victory, PBL rewards day, Cluster sport, Regional Fanfare and Eisteddfods for the strings and bands to mention a few.  Thank you to the staff and parents who have contributed to these events and the memories our students have from participating in them.

Unfortunately, we have had a number of complaints to the office regarding reckless driving through the pick-up area and also instances of road rage.  The desired speed in this area is 10km/h which provides enough time for drivers to react to kids running out between cars and staff who control the zebra crossings.   The safety of all BayView community members is extremely important and I would ask that during the morning drop off and afternoon pick up that all adults in cars demonstrate care attention to the road and respect for all.

Across the September holidays all students’ desks from year 1 - 6 will be replaced.  One of the many benefits of our school is that our facilities and furniture are maintained by a private company who are required to update the school on a regular basis.  Thankfully as part of this program the desks have been rehoused in another Education Queensland school as well as being sent overseas as part of the Rotary Club’s international outreach.

Term 4 is listed as an 11 week term and I’m sure all the students are excited for the extra week of school.  The Department of Education and the Teachers Union have agreed that week 11 of term four will be a supervision week only.  This means that no formal learning will occur during this week and staff will provide supervision to students.  I know that many families have recurring bookings at holiday apartments and campsites and missing a year can mean not having your spot available until another one appears.  Early next term I will send an email out with a survey to seek information as to whether your child will be attending the last week of term.

Early next term we will host our second parent teacher interviews, and I know that this week you received an email from Carly Blyth with instructions on how to book.  If you are available, please take the opportunity to book an interview as teachers will be able to share students’ current level of achievement with strategies to assist them to improve or consolidate their mark prior to the end of year assessment and reporting and period.

Have an excellent holiday, spending time with your kids and family.  Stay safe and we look forward to partnering with you to ensure your students have positive end to the school year in Term 4.  (If you know of any good fishing spots on Moreton Island please send them through as this is where I will be spending the second week of the holidays!)

Victoria Point State High School Open Day for BayView Students - 2 October 2024

This open day is designed to give the students the opportunity to:

  • Meet the Principal and the Year Level Lead teacher;
  • Meet the Senior Peer Leaders that will be working with the Year 7 students next year, and will become their buddies;
  • Make some new friends from other schools;
  • Tour the campus and be shown key buildings and their purpose;
  • Try out our Academy Programs and see if any of them spark their interest (Dance Academy will audition on this day)
  • Experience some high school subjects like Home Economics, Industrial Technology and Design and Business.

The purpose of Orientation Day is to help dimmish the nerves and provide our new high school students with confidence, when they walk through the gates on their first day at VPSHS in 2025.  Parents dropping off and picking up their students will then have the opportunity to meet some of the teachers and administration staff and will be able to ask any questions that they might have.

Please see the letter linked below for more details.

Sporting Schools Golf

Our Bay View students are enjoying instruction from Coach Chris on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and are looking forward to their round on course at the Redland Bay Golf Club next Thursday.

Guidance Officer, Mrs Robinson

A change we have made this year is to formalise support for our external agencies. We, as a team, are here to support your family in any way we can. However, teachers are very busy and sometimes have had to complete forms out of school hours and on school holidays.  To assist in this space, we have attached our new process for Information sharing or assessment for External Agencies. There are two forms that need to be completed and signed. The first form is Request for Information, and the second is permission for the school to contact outside agencies.

Our policy is to give the school team 4 weeks’ notice. This allows us to collaborate and make sure we have all the facts required by your specialist. Both forms can be collected at Corporate Services. Once the forms have been completed, I will then process and pass the information on to the classroom teacher. Please do not give your child’s teacher a form from a specialist or allow your specialist to send a link. Education Queensland only allows staff to complete paper copies of assessments.

The forms required are linked below and are also available at Corporate Services.

Music Concert

Congratulations to all the performers at BayView’s Music Concert ‘I Am the Earth’.  Students put a lot of time and effort into their instruments, be that band/string/voice, and it was amazing to see all that hard work pay off.

Special thanks to our surprise performers – the past students and staff, for adding a little something extra to the evening and helping show that music is for life.

Intermediate Choir and BayView Voices

There will be no rehearsals in Week 1 of Term 4 as Miss Ellis is on Long Service Leave.

Library News

Thank you to those families who purchased books from our Book Warehouse Book Fair last week which was held in the Discovery Centre.  The event was a huge success for our school. Q Parents

We encourage ALL BayView families to join QParents as soon as possible.  This will enable us to roll out Consent Management via QParents rather than sending paper notes home.  If you haven't received an email invitation, please contact Corporate Services admin@bayviewss.eq.edu.au.

Advising the School of an absence

If your child is absent without explanation, you will receive an SMS asking for a reason for their absence.  When replying, consider these handy hints.

  • Please ensure you select the child’s name you are explaining an absence for.
  • Please respond on the day (or following day) that you receive the SMS message.

If you would like to advise the school of an absence, please use one of the following methods:

  • Use QParents
  • Phone the student absence line on 3206 5266
  • Email absence@bayviewss.eq.edu.au
  • Please do NOT send an SMS message unless you are REPLYING to our message.

If you have any finance questions throughout the year, please contact our Business Manager, Vikki Lord vlord1@eq.edu.au or Cara Dyer cdyer44@eq.edu.au.  We are happy to help with any queries regarding invoices, payment plans, financial hardship or general student account questions.

Fruit Snack

Students are encouraged to bring a piece of fruit from home every day to promote healthy eating.  Students will have a short break before 1st break to enjoy their fruit snack.  We are always happy to accept donations of fruit.

Lost Property

Please ensure that all clothing, hats, drink bottles and lunch boxes are clearly named, so they can be returned to your child as soon as possible.  Our lost property trolley is located at Corporate Services and is cleared out at the end of each term.

Voluntary Contributions

Parents are invited to participate in a Voluntary Resource Contribution Scheme of $100 per student per year. If you haven’t received a form, please contact Corporate Services admin@bayviewss.eq.edu.au.  These valuable contributions go directly towards the costs involved with providing your children with a wide range of Literacy, Numeracy, ICT and Creative Arts resources.
