Principal, Mr David Cooke
Congratulations to our AFL Queensland Team who placed second at their qualifying event last week and will now progress to the next stage of this competition. This is an amazing achievement as we had a number of younger athletes this year. Well, done to Mr Beasley for his preparation of the team and good luck for the coming event.
As well as this accomplishment, we have had two students who have successfully been selected to represent the Bayside District team for football. Congratulations, Dane and Quincy who will now compete for selection into the Metropolitan East Football team to contest the Queensland State Titles later in the year.
On the weekend, Ellis and the Metropolitan East Boys Netball team won Silver at the Qld State Titles in Toowoomba. This is the first time Ellis has played Netball and the first time in QLD School sport that this event has been held. Congratulations Ellis!
It’s been a big week for sporting achievements, with three of our BayView cross Country runners performing brilliantly at the Bayside District trials. Sienna and Cruz both had excellent results given the 90 or more participants in their race. Eilis placed third in his event gaining selection to contest the Metropolitan East trials later this term.
We also celebrated Volunteer week. We are very lucky here at BayView to have amazing volunteers who come in to support our students in a range of activities. Our Café, the stalls and fundraising wouldn’t be possible if we did not have a committed group of parents and grandparents. I would also like to highlight our wonderful P&C team who meet once a month to discuss the school and look for ways to make a difference for our students. If you can spare some time please come to meetings, assist with the Café, stalls, student reading or our fundraising team.
Looking ahead, I am really excited to see our students engaging with under 8’s day on Thursday 30 May. If you are able to attend, I know that our teachers are organising some amazing activities to join in with your children. Following the activities, we would love for you to have morning tea on the grass area in Early Year’s so please bring a picnic rug and some food.
Technology while an integral part of our society used for learning, work and more so our social interactions, also comes with some perils for our young people. If you have been reading the papers recently or engaging with the regular news cycle, a conversation of how social media is impacting our kids is taking place. While this conversation is not a new one, the focus is being put on what children should have access to on these platforms. Unfortunately, at school we are hearing and seeing students using online messenger services and social media platforms to harass their peers. While this is happening outside of school time, the repercussions of this are being felt at school in the playground. Many of the screenshots I have seen do not reflect the students involved, however, when they are behind the anonymity of the screen and in large online groups, some really inappropriate comments have been made causing significant issues for families.
I have listed below some prevention strategies that can be used to ensure appropriate use of technology:
- Regularly check your kids’ mobile phones and iPads with them present, looking specifically at the messenger groups and any social media they may have.
- Limit use of technology to common areas of the house and not in the bedroom.
- Set restrictions to deactivate apps at certain times of the day and night.
- Remove devices at bedtime and hide them so they can’t be accessed.
If you have any concerns relating to online content, please take screenshots and inform your relevant Deputy Principal. While consequences may not be able to be enforced at a school level, we can certainly make parents aware of online activity and in some cases, inform the relevant authorities.
Have a great week!
David

Prep 2025 Enrolments
Enrolments for Prep 2025 are now open. Please collect an Enrolment Application Pack from Corporate Services or download a copy from the link in our Newsletter or on our website. Out-of-catchment registration is via a link on our website. (New families please note, if you are providing a copy of your Lease Agreement, your Lease will need to be current as at the first week of school in 2025).
Cold Weather
With the cold weather fast approaching please remember the following to keep everyone safe and protected.
- Wash hands regularly
- Signs of cold and flu, including coughing, temperatures and feeling unwell, please stay at home
- Wear a NAMED jumper. Please make sure it is a navy jumper in line with the school dress code
- Drink plenty of water
We often find it a challenge to find replacement teachers during the cold and flu season.
Before school reminders
There are a number of students here well before 8am, without parents. Please be reminded to be sitting IN the undercover area and not walking around the pathways. All students are to wait in the undercover area before school. No student or parent should wait outside the classrooms before school unless they have a meeting with the teacher.
After school reminders
Parents are to wait until the bell rings to move to any classrooms. When parents wait outside, it disrupts our students' learning time. Please remember, no student should be on the playground before or after school as they are out of bounds.
After School Pick up - Student collection by 2.55pm
As the school bell goes at 2.40pm, all students should be collected by 2.55pm if they are not attending afternoon sport/choir. If you are unable to collect your child, then other arrangements should be made. Not only is this for the safety of your child, but it also allows the office staff to complete their end of day work.
The back gate no longer has staff on duty afterschool, so it is recommended for any young students to use kiss and ride as there are staff supporting this area.
Under 8's Day
We are looking forward to Under 8's Day this Thursday. Parents & Carers are welcome to come and join in the fun and have a picnic on the grass.
Mrs Whalley

Guidance Officer, Mrs Robinson
A change we have made this year is to formalise support for our external agencies. We, as a team, are here to support your family in any way we can. However, teachers are very busy and sometimes have had to complete forms out of school hours and on school holidays. To assist in this space, we have attached our new process for Information sharing or assessment for External Agencies. There are two forms that need to be completed and signed. The first form is Request for Information and the second is permission for the school to contact outside agencies.
Our policy is to give the school team 4 weeks’ notice. This allows us to collaborate and make sure we have all the facts required by your specialist. Both forms can be collected at Corporate Services. Once the forms have been completed, I will then process and pass the information on to the classroom teacher. Please do not give your child’s teacher a form from a specialist or allow your specialist to send a link. Education Queensland only allows staff to complete paper copies of assessments.
The forms required are attached to this newsletter and available at the office.
Mrs Robinson
Head of Inclusion, Mrs Skye Sitcheff
This year we have been lucky enough to receive a grant from Pick of the Crop. This grant will enable the upkeep of our herb planter boxes, a vegetable garden in the Advancement Centre and the planting of some fruit trees and bush tucker. We aim to increase the awareness of our students around the production of fruits and vegetables and how we can take them from the garden to our plates. We will be growing, cooking, taste testing and getting creative in the garden.
Keeping lunchboxes real!
Lunchboxes don’t need to be difficult, nor do they have to look like a photo from a glossy magazine. They need to be achievable, affordable and give your kids healthy options that are full of energy to learn and play during the school day.
Try these top tips for making lunchboxes for your kids -
- Keep it simple.
- Think colour!
- Get kids involved.
- Small pieces for smaller hands.
- Keep it cool, keep it fresh.
- Look for the quick options.

External Therapy Requests
From time to time, parents & carers may request the collaboration of staff from BayView State School with external therapy providers to help support the educational and wellbeing needs of students. This request needs to be initiated by the parents. Request forms need to be completed by parents/carers and external providers requesting a visit. A member of the school team will contact parents/carers once the school team has considered the request.

On a beautiful sunny Tuesday with juicy juicy green grass growing, our Prep-3 students had a ting tang teng tong terrific time at the Peter Combe Incursion. They displayed beautiful bright faces from washing their face with orange juice and had sparkly smiles from cleaning their teeth with bubblegum. They left the performance dreaming of toffee apples and spaghetti bolognaise as we went into lunch. Thankfully, nobody bellyflopped in a pizza!

Look Before You Lock
Look Before You Lock is an important reminder to routinely check that no child is left unattended in a vehicle. Get in the habit of checking your backseat every time you get out of the car. Check even if you know your child is not with you. This will help make Look Before You Lock part of your normal routine. This simple action can save a child’s life. When we are busy or distracted, one shortcut on safety can have devastating, lifelong consequences. Learn more about keeping children safe at www.qld.gov.au/lookbeforeyoulock
Foster Carers
Foster carers come from all walks of life, but no matter who they are, they all have one thing in common; a place in their heart for a child who needs support and understanding. Fostering starts with care. It’s not always easy, but training and support is available. Visit www.qld.gov.au/fostercare to learn more and submit an expression of interest. If you would like to speak to someone about becoming a foster carer call Queensland Foster and Kinship Care on 1300 550 877.
