Principal, Mr David Cooke
Term two has definitely started with a bang and we have been extremely busy at school with whole school events.
It was wonderful to see so many families coming to meet with their child’s teacher at the interviews on Wednesday. Its important that both classroom teachers and parents have a shared understanding of where students are with their learning so we can work together in partnership to support student growth.
In week one, we held our annual cross-country carnival and given the numbers of students who are attending run club on a Monday and Wednesday morning it wasn’t a surprise to see all students in the school give their best to achieve points for their house. These are the days students remember when they finish school and I would like to thank all the parents who came to support our students.
Recently a number of our students ran at the district cross-country and performed brilliantly. Congratulations to all students and a special mention to Sienna, Cruz and Ellis on their selection in the Bayside District Cross Country team. All three of these students will attend the Metropolitan East trials in hopes of attending a state level carnival later in the year.
Sport Aerobics teams have been furiously training for an upcoming competition at Cleveland District SHS as a preparation event for the season ahead. Good luck to all teams and I am looking forward to seeing as many teams as possible during the day.
Following the school review that was conducted in term one, I recently received our school review report and executive summary. I will firstly present this at the next Parents and Citizens Association meeting and distribute more widely to the community following this meeting. In due course I will be asking for interested parents to help unpack the report and assist in setting the four-year direction of the school. Given the number of staffing changes the school has had recently, the finalisation of a four-year strategic plan is vitally important to ensure the school continues to grow and support the needs of the community it serves.
Throughout this year the school will be moving towards full integration of the QParents platform and particularly the digital consent management aspect of this product. Digital consent will mean no more lost permission forms at the bottom of school bags or lost on the way home. Providing digital consent for excursions, camps another school activities will also save an extraordinary amount of paper. Once we transition to full digital consent management, the school will not generate hardcopy handouts for students to take home.
A start date will be communicated to parents as soon as we have worked through some internal plans however it at this stage our launch date for looks like being from the start of term 4 this year. Please see regular communication from the school regarding how to sign up and if you need support our corporate services staff will be more than happy to assist.
Enjoy the long weekend with your family and friends and I look forward to seeing the students back here on Tuesday morning.

Transition into High School Cluster Program
Recently, as part of our Transitioning into High School Cluster program, school captains and leaders of Victoria Point State School, came to visit our Year 6 student cohort.
Discussions and presentations around what high school life is like and key programmes offered by Victoria Point State High School was presented.
This initiative highlights some of the core focus activities our Cluster Primary & Cluster High schools are engaging with, to ensure our Yr 6 students feel prepared moving into the next stage of schooling.
Similarly, Cluster Language invitations for students in our upper years will be handed out shortly. This particular event will be occurring on Friday 31st May at Cleveland District State School.
Future leaders in the making, with BayView State School student leaders and Yr 6 peers, forming connections with community!

ANZAC Commemoration
On Wednesday 23 April, we held our whole school ANZAC Ceremony. Thank you to our families who attended - it was a full house. Thank you to our special guests, Mr Alan Harcourt, representative of the Sub Branch RSL, Councillor Mr Paul Golle and Mr Richard Bertossi from the Australian Defence Force.
Cold Weather
With the cold weather fast approaching please remember the following to keep everyone safe and protected.
- Wash hands regularly
- Signs of cold and flu, including coughing, temperatures and feeling unwell, please stay at home
- Wear a NAMED jumper. Please make sure it is a navy jumper in line with the school dress code
- Drink plenty of water
We often find it a challenge to find replacement teachers during the cold and flu season.
Walk Safely to School Day
Friday May 10 is ‘Walk Safely To School Day’
We encourage all students to walk to school or park the car down the road and walk the rest of the way.
Please talk about ‘walking safely’ and what that means including driveways and crossings.
Prep 2025 Enrolments
Enrolments for Prep 2025 are now open. Please collect an Enrolment Application Pack from Corporate Services or download a copy from the link below or our website. Out-of-catchment registrations is via a link on our website. (New families please note, if you are providing a copy of your Lease Agrement, your Lease will need to be curent as at the first week of school in 2025).
Before school reminders
All students are to wait in the undercover area before school. No student or parent should wait outside the classrooms before school unless they have a meeting with the teacher.
After school reminders
Parents are to wait until the bell rings to move to any classrooms. When parents wait outside, it disrupts our students' learning time.
Please remember, no student should be on the playground before or after school as they are out of bounds.
After School Pick up - Student collection by 2.55pm
As the school bell goes at 2.40pm, all students should be collected by 2.55pm if they are not attending afternoon sport/choir. If you are unable to collect your child, then other arrangements should be made. Not only is this for the safety of your child, but it also allows the office staff to complete their end of day work.
The back gate no longer has staff on duty afterschool, so it is recommended for any young students to use kiss and ride as there are staff supporting this area.

Guidance Officer, Mrs Robinson
A change we have made this year is to formalise support for our external agencies. We, as a team, are here to support your family in any way we can. However, teachers are very busy and sometimes have had to complete forms out of school hours and on school holidays. To assist in this space, we have attached our new process for Information sharing or assessment for External Agencies. There are two forms that need to be completed and signed. The first form is Request for Information and the second is permission for the school to contact outside agencies.
Our policy is to give the school team 4 weeks’ notice. This allows us to collaborate and make sure we have all the facts required by your specialist. Both forms can be collected at Corporate Services. Once the forms have been completed, I will then process and pass the information on to the classroom teacher. Please do not give your child’s teacher a form from a specialist or allow your specialist to send a link. Education Queensland only allows staff to complete paper copies of assessments. The forms required are attached to this newsletter and available at the office.

External Therapy Requests
From time to time, parents & carers may request the collaboration of staff from BayView State School with external therapy providers to help support the educational and wellbeing needs of students. This request needs to be initiated by the parents. Request forms need to be completed by parents / carers and external providers requesting a visit. A member of the school team will contact parents / carers once the school team has considered the request.

Prep Red
In Prep Red we have been learning about materials.
We explored the materials that hats are made of and why. We also discussed their properties and uses.
1 Lime
In 1 Lime, we have been busy creating and reading maps in HASS! Earlier this term, we visited the Prep area and talked about the new Prep building and the other ‘features’ of the Prep outdoor space. Students have drawn their own maps of the area and we are using positional language to describe how to get from one place to another.
We have also been exploring habitats in Science, and have been investigating the external features of different animals. We will have lots of knowledge to share with the Wild Rangers when we have our Wildlife incursion in Week 6!
Wellbeing Wednesday

Keep your Family Fire Safe

Look Before You Lock
Look Before You Lock is an important reminder to routinely check that no child is left unattended in a vehicle. Get in the habit of checking your backseat every time you get out of the car. Check even if you know your child is not with you. This will help make Look Before You Lock part of your normal routine. This simple action can save a child’s life. When we are busy or distracted, one shortcut on safety can have devastating, lifelong consequences. Learn more about keeping children safe at www.qld.gov.au/lookbeforeyoulock
Foster Carers
Foster carers come from all walks of life, but no matter who they are, they all have one thing in common; a place in their heart for a child who needs support and understanding. Fostering starts with care. It’s not always easy, but training and support is available.
Fostering needs people with extraordinary hearts. People just like you.

Campaign against Speeding
Do you have a teen learning to drive? Young drivers make up 13% of Queensland’s licence-holders and yet they’re involved in around a third of fatal crashes. The new ‘Speeding? You’re no hero’ campaign, developed by Co-Lab Youth Road Safety Challenge, aims to highlight the consequences of speeding. Watch the video here.
